In an Australian English language classroom, you will not have to recite long lists from dull text books. You will receive a quality English language education and you will have the opportunity to put that education to use in life.

A course to meet your needs

Whatever your level of English, an English language college will have a program to meet your needs. Most colleges have video facilities, libraries and computer-assisted learning. They also have ‘language laboratories’, which are similar to ‘English corner’ sessions overseas.

There are five main types of English courses taught in Australia:

General English

This course focuses on the development of communication skills, particularly speaking and listening.

English for Academic Purposes

This course will prepare you for study at an English-speaking university or a vocational institute.

English for Specific Purposes

These courses focus on practical English for specific course areas, including English for Business, Aviation, Tourism, Settlement, Work etc

Secondary School Preparation

This course will develop your English for entry into an Australian secondary school.

Examination Preparation

These courses will prepare you for English language proficiency examinations, including the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Cambridge Certificates.

English Teacher Training (TESOL) 

This course will prepare you for teach English including teaching practice in the real English classes and work experience at the local schools.

Study Options- Full Time, Part Time, Day Time, Evening Time –

If you apply for a student visa, you will be able to enrol into a 25-hour per week course with 20 hours of a core program plus five hours of special skills workshops. With this option, you will normally finish around 3.00pm on Mondays to Thursdays and 1.00pm on Fridays. There is also the opportunity to choose a 20-hour per week option and finish each day at 1.00pm. With this option you will not take the skills workshops.

Some schools offer Evening programs and 2-3 days per week English programs which you can enrol into at any time during the year. Full-time courses range from two weeks to 48 weeks. Expect to spend about 25 hours a week studying, including time spent in class and studying on your own.
